50's Housewife pin curls with a wand?!

No, you did not miss read the title, there is a way to do the perfect 50's housewife hair with a curling wand! Which if I have any 'I Love Lucy' fans i think this is exactly what her hair looks like when its not pulled back in a bun. If you want a looser (more 40's) effect, see my last post. Now the reason I decided to use a curling wand is because I personally don't like using traditional curling iron because I find it takes too much time. As with a curling wand the process goes faster. With this, you will need a Curling Wand which is an inch in diameter (mine slightly slopes smaller, but you can use any kind), curl setting spray, hairspray (if your hair looses curl easily), lots of bobby pins, and a hairbrush (it can be any old hairbrush).

First, make sure your hair is completely dry, then spray it slightly with a curl setting spray to help hold the curls but not make them stiff. Then make sure your curling wand is plugged in and ready!

Second, brush your hair out once it doesn't feel slightly damp anymore. The you can begin curling it with the wand, when doing it you will go in alternating patterns. I start with the very top part of my hair for the first layer and I curl it under towards my face. Once you finish the first top layer of your hair all in the same direction going towards your face. Each curl you do, as soon as you curl it pin it up with a single bobby pin (it may be hot so be careful if you have sensitive skin).

Third, now go on the layer underneath the one you just pinned up and start curling that layer away from your face. With these ones to the same thing after you curl each individual curl, pin it up with a bobby pin.

Fourth, now you should be on the last major layer, on this layer you are going to curl as you did on the first layer, towards your face. Then pin up each curl after you'd curled it. The rest smaller bits of hair you may have left can be curled in any direction of your choosing.

Fifth, spray over the set pinned curls with the curl setting spray. As you let these curls set do something to preoccupy your time, I do my make up in this time. Once you've let the curls sit for a little while (for about 15 minutes) take out all the bobby pins but do not mess with the curls until they're all taken out.

Sixth, when all the bobby pins are out of your hair spray your hair lightly with your curl setting spray one last time. Then, run your fingers in your hair to break up the curls. Be warned it will look like a poofy 80's mess at first, but don't worry!

Seventh, take your hair brush and begin to brush out the curls, then keep brushing but use your hand along side the brush to give a non-frizzy and together took. And with that your hair should be complete! You can of course give it a good spray of hairspray if your hair type calls for it as a way to keep your curls all day.

I hope you all enjoyed and can find use of this! Comment and let me know what you are interested in seeing here on my blog!

Kitty
